8/28 Bumblee, Bumblebee

Activity Card: “Bumblebee Bumblebee”

During large group this week we are learning about everyone’s name! We also talked about action words and our “Bouncing Ball Sound” /B/. We sang “Bringing Home a Baby Bumble Bee” and then played a game to learn each other’s names. We passed around a stuffed bumblebee, patted our legs and chanted “Bumblebee, bumblebee will you say your name with me?” then whoever was holding the stuffed bumblebee would tell us his/her name (if they were nervous or needed some help, a teacher said their name with them).

If we had time, we played a game with the song “If You’re Happy and You Know It” by singing “If your name is ‘Amanda’ clap your hands. If your name is ‘Amanda’ clap your hands! If your name is Amanda, if your name is Amanda, if your name is Amanda, clap your hands!” Kids choose what action we got to do with the song.

Weekly Targets:

  • Action vocabulary (verbs)
  • Names (vocabulary)
  • Rhythm (pre-literacy skill)
  • Rhyming (pre-literacy skill)
 Phonemic Awareness:

  •      Our Bouncing Ball Sound /B/

Hello!

Working with kids is the absolute best, but there was a time in my life when I was sure I wanted to work in adult rehab with stroke and brain injury patients. Clearly, that was the time when I was, ahem, out of my mind. Luckily, then, for the first time, I was given the opportunity to work with a child. I have never looked back.

I am an early childhood speech language pathologist. For those of you who don't know what that means, it means that I work as a communication therapist with children (mostly under the age of 6) targeting primarily speech, language, and interaction.

We work as a team in our classrooms to help encourage and support children's development. My focus is on speech, language, and interaction but there is not always a true separation between developing skills. Language and cognition do not develop in isolated bubbles. This is why the preschool classroom is an amazing place for kids to be a part of. We work to encourage development of the whole child and support them to learn new things for themselves.

My goal for this site is to create a space to relay information about what we are learning and targeting at school as well as other information that is relevant to speech and language development so that we can help each other be more effective team members for each of your individual children.

Goodbye Questions! Hello to Conversation!

You have probably noticed that when adults are talking with children, adults tend to rely heavily on questions. “What’s...
