Who's Behind the Door

We talked about names again this week! Ms Amanda/Ms Bee brought in her big blue door and we all closed our eyes as someone hid behind the blue door. We talked about the words “behind” in “front” and “Who” and then sang  “Who’s Behind the Door? (To the tune of “The Farmer In the Dell”), and when our friends stepped out of the door, we cheered for each person that we met!

Who’s behind the door?
Who’s behind the door?
Who, Who, WHO--
Who’s behind the door?

We have also been singing “Baby Bumblebee” the last couple of weeks and talking about the /b/ sound. (“I’m bringing home a baby bumblebee… won’t my mommy be so proud of me..”).

At home, you could expand these ideas by talking about the /b/ sound and taking turns hiding behind things. You could also hide different toy characters behind a cushion or door. And sing the song , or just repeat the concepts of “behind” and “who.” If your child has later language skills, you could pick something from a group of objects and then try to figure out what is missing -- and provide clues that use descriptive/attribute terms.

Targeted Objectives

  •         Wh question word “WHO”
    •      Both comprehension of and production
  •          Vocabulary – Peer names
  •          Basic concepts – Behind
  •          Rhythm (pre-reading skill)
  •         /b/ sound (phonemic awareness)
  •       Imitation of nonverbal actions
